NYCEDC Announces Summer of Cultural and Community Events at Brooklyn Army Terminal

Highlights Include Free Rooftop Films Screenings, Brooklyn Army Terminal Summer Series, and Mochakk Calling NYC
BROOKLYN, NY—New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) today unveiled a vibrant slate of community events taking place at the historic Brooklyn Army Terminal (BAT) in Sunset Park, kicking off in June and running through September 2025. This summer’s programming will feature a wide range of events—from lively parades and festive celebrations to free film screenings under the stars and a series of events celebrating the heritage, spirit, and traditions of New York City’s diverse communities.
Highlights include the return of Rooftop Films, taking place at the Ferry Plaza at BAT, with free feature film screenings. This year’s lineup includes a special screening of Selena y Los Dinos on July 26, a documentary celebrating the iconic Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla and on August 16, How Deep Is Your Love—a documentary showcasing marine biologists on a deep-sea exploration of mesmerizing creatures and ecosystems thriving in darkness.
On June 21, BAT will host EMW Presents: Mochakk Calling NYC, a ticketed event featuring world-renowned dance music artist Mochakk, along with DJ Boring, DJ Seinfeld, and Lovefoxy. The three-hour, open-air event is 18 and over and will take place on BAT’s Pier 4, set against the dramatic backdrop of the New York City skyline.
Additional events, in partnership with the Sunset Park Empowerment Center, will be part of the Brooklyn Army Terminal Summer Series highlighting New York City’s diverse communities. The series kicks off with the Puerto Rican Heritage Celebration on June 5, a spirited Puerto Rican Day Parade event. It continues with the Independence Day Celebration on July 3, a free, family-friendly event featuring live entertainment. On July 12, the Carnaval de Chilenos & Tecuanos celebrates the fusion of Chilean and Mexican cultures with traditional dances, live music, and authentic cuisine. The IPA-Beer Celebration on August 7 will showcase a curated selection of IPAs from local and regional craft breweries. The Dominican Heritage Celebration on August 9 will honor Dominican culture with an energetic mix of music, food, and community spirit. The series concludes with the Hispanic Heritage Celebration on September 6, a vibrant end-of-summer event spotlighting Hispanic art, music, and culinary traditions.
Originally constructed in 1919 as the nation’s largest military supply base, BAT has been reimagined by NYCEDC through a $519 million investment to create a dynamic space for public use. In 2024 alone, BAT hosted over 75,000 visitors and contributed $2.85 million in donated event space. Its iconic atrium, waterfront promenade, and ferry-accessible pier make it an ideal destination for large-scale festivals, cultural programming, and community gatherings.
